Party swapping in Drekirokr
Date: 2025-10-05
Hello everyone! Captain at the speak again! Wow only like what 4 months? WOW. Anyway. I got a lot of stories to tell I guess.
First off, here's the thing I had planned past blog entry. It's not perfect, has a bunch of issues and I'm still not happy with where I placed it, currently it's just there, at the top-left corner but I'll probably move it down a bit. I haven't even fixed an overlap issue with the um "action name window".
Also first time I embed a video here!
There's an interaction between the party swap and enemies' counterattacks. I need to fix a couple things, make sure those attacks can't apply effects on exiting characters. Because yeah if your character is sure to be counterattacked you can swap parties and get them off danger. That's a feature now! Well, not now, whenever I actually update the downloads. That combined with the back attacks, I think there's something unique etc etc.
I have some things to balance out, like costs in actions, but currently it's kind of experimental so it's practically free. The character executing the switching out does get their action bar fully depleted. Another thing is that characters don't fill their bars while out of battle. For now I think the cost is fine. Actually considered the counter escape thing as an extra to give it more utility.
Oh but hey this is not the only video I brought today, here's this thing. Been messing around with a Genesis SDK, they did most of the heavy work I'm just a plain user, asking silly questions if not fully embarrassed due to my noviceness. They have a Discord tho and seem pretty welcoming tho. If you're itching for some homebrew goodness this is a good option. It's well maintained and very packed of cool features.
I wrote an entire scenario outline for this already but I don't want to juggle two RPGs at the same time... right now.
Currently with this I have most of the general systems going, I'm only missing menues and such. The battle is running as you can see in the video, there's NPCs, they change with progression flags like RPG Maker stuff, etc. I think besides the menu I gotta be planning on doing an editor to simplify producing content, currently my best option is Godot lol, for editor making! I've been thinking about learning to use Qt but I got intimidated just by visiting their website! I'll still try, just for the sake of learning.
The last thing I'm gonna share in this entry is YET ANOTHER GAME. Yeah. I made a small game for Riggy's jam 7. Here's the link to the game and here's a link to the jam itself. There was some amazing games done there. I didn't take the entire time, I kinda just crashed and did something in like 2 days, it's very much an experiment.
And that's about it for now, thanks for reading and happy game making! Or game playing! Please continue with what you were doing!
